Synopsis

A retired US military veteran and the mother of four, Darlene Mowry isn’t the name you will hear quite often in the media. While her daughters, Tia and Tamera Mowry, and Son Tahj Mowry won the heart of mass through their work, its Darlene who was the actual behind the scenes workhorse.

Darlene’s Early Background and Family Life

Born on October 25, 1956, Darlene Renee Mowry (Flowers) belongs to an Afro-Bahamian ethnicity. Although her early background is a mystery, news claim that Darlene and Timothy Mowry were high school sweethearts. After graduating from high school, Darlene soon followed the military path of her husband. There she earned the rank of “Sergeant.”

During her posting in Gelnhausen, West Germany, she gave birth to the twin sisters we know as Tia and Tamera. She also has two sons Tahj (1986) and Tavior (1993). Tahj is an actor himself starred in shows like baby daddy. And her youngest son Tavior has just started his career as a music composer after an injury sidelined him from his football career. Furthermore, she has two grandchildren Cree from Tia and Ariah  from Tamera. Tia and Tamera are married to Cory Hardrict and Adam Housley respectively.

The Mowry family shares a tight bond that Tia refers as “close-knit.” During the 1990s, Darlene managed her two daughters when they were in a singing group called Voices. She has always been an integral part of Tia and Tamera’s career. Mrs. Mowry is often seen with her two daughters and Tahj in different movie premiers and shows. The twin duo often shares pictures of their family on Instagram that highlights the deep and meaningful relation this family carries.

The ethics and attributes we inherited when growing up in a military family is the best thing that happened to us says – Tia during an interview. The family never shy away to show their tribute to Veteran day. Tia also claims that the discipline and respect they learned growing up has led them to a  successful career.

“The one thing that I do remember was just living on base,” Tia Mowry-Hardrict told The Huffington Post. “I thought that was the coolest thing. You can step outside of your home and see people who are serving your country. It just gave me great pride to be on such strength and courage.”

Darlene also played a major part in helping her son Tavior Mowry get through his depressing days. When he was struck by career-threatening injury, it was Darlene who suggested him to take classes for music composition. And looks like the suggestion was an absolute gem as he was able to switch careers in no time.

Career

After quitting her job in the military, Darlene and her husband Timothy moved to California. There she was able to land a job of security guard. However, her run as a guard was brief as she devoted all of her time to her daughter’s acting career. She now works as an executive producer with movies like Double Wedding, The Poof Point, and Seventeen Again on her list.
