D.L. Hughley:Everything You Need To Know About Him

An American artist Darryl Lynn-D.L. Hughley is an actor, political commentator, radio host and a best known stand-up comedian from his sitcom The Hughleys and The Original Kings of Comedy.

His childhood

Actor Hughley was born on March 6, 1963, in Los Angeles, California, USA. He is the second son of Charles Hughley, an airline maintenance worker, and Audrey, a homemaker.

His teenage years were full of troubles when he was a member of a Los Angeles street gang the Bloods and also, he was kicked out from high school. Later, he got his GED (General Educational Development) and also, he quit his gang because his cousin was shot. After leaving the gang, he got a job of a Telemarketer in The Los Angeles Times which turns his life to different way.

His Career

D.L. Hughley began his career playing in the local clubs. Before doing comedy, he was just an assistant manager over the telephone sales operation room. But, after facing hard time in his family, he started performing at the local comedy clubs in the evening, to earn extra money. With the support of his wife, he got more passionate in this field and today, he is a comedian celebrity.

After performing frequently at the clubs, he got an opportunity to host the stand-up comedy program on BET, ComicView from 1992-1993. In 1998, he came up as a debut producer of a television sitcom series The Hughleys. During the run of his series, he got the chance to participate in Spike Lee’s documentary film The Originals Kings of Comedy, 2000. In 2005, he released his comedy album D.L. Hughley: Notes from the GED Section, also hosted a talk show on the Comedy Central called Weekends at the D.L. in the same year.

A year later, he hosted another show Aaron Sorkin’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip which was not so popular. Then, he quickly ran to the HBO show Unapologetic (2007). In 2008, he was selected to host CNN news-show, D.L. Hughley Breaks the News. At the same year, he hosted BET Awards.

He started a radio show The D.L. Hughley Morning Show in NYC, in 2009.  He participated in the reality show Dancing with the stars, Season 16 (2013) along with his partner Cheryl Burke.

We can see his performance in several movies like The Brothers (2001), Soul Plane (2004), Spy School (2008) and television series like The Hughleys (1998-2002), Scrubs (2003), Hawaii Five-0 (2010).

He has also published his book BLACK MAN WHITE HOUSE which is the New York Time’s Best Seller.

His Personal Life

Hughley met his wife-to-be, LaDonna in his first workplace. Both of them get married on 22nd Feb, 1986. Now, they have 3 children-Ryan and Tyler (daughter) and Kyle (son).
